Open Auditions for The Smashing Pumpkins

Billy Corgan is ready to restart Smashing Pumpkins with a brand new line up. He is holding OPEN auditions for a bassist and keyboard player. You could be jamming with Billy Corgan. You could be a Smashing Pumpkin. This is legit. Billy Corgan is the frontman of the successful band The Smashing Pumpkins and organized the band.

Why is Billy holding an open audition to novice musicians? Here's why, last year Billy was successful in finding a drummer through this kind of open audition process. So when his bassist, Ginger Pooley, left the band to raise her new baby with her husband, Billy decided to try it again. And let's face it, we have all heard the stories of Billy being a creative control freak so it is probably easier for him to mold someone fresh as opposed to someone seasoned.

In Billy's own words:

"Although I am heartbroken that Ginger is leaving the group, I really respect her decision to put her family first. I appreciate everything that she has contributed to The Smashing Pumpkins, and I'm proud of her for being such a great musician and friend. We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process, so why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position. As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition.”

Until a new bassist is found, Mark Tulin of The Electric Prunes - with whom BILLY toured last year in Spirits In The Sky - will fill in on an interim basis. Look for The Pumpkins to soon announce a world tour including dates in the U.S.

If you think you have what it takes to be in The Smashing Pumpkins, you can send background info (including age, a resume of any bands/recorded work), photos and performance web links via email only:

Note: only musicians with video clips can be considered. Youtube.com type posts are perfect--that's how drummer Mike Byrne was found.
