Morgan Creek Productions launches massive talent search for feature film 'Tupac'

A massive talent search is underway to hopefully find a new unknown actor to play the lead role of Tupac Shakur in the upcoming feature film titled "Tupac". Tupac Shakur was the rapper, actor, record producer, poet, screenwriter and activist who was gunned down and assassinated the night of September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas, NV.

David and James Robinson of Morgan Creek Productions will executive produce along with Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother. She will executive produce a film in 2012 that Tupac Shakur wrote prior to his death titled "Live 2 Tell". David Robinson said that they are looking for someone with the right mix of raw charm and charisma for the role, and they are we’re more concerned about finding someone with the ability to give their entire heart into the performance more than just looks and personality.

Black Reel Award winning Antoine Fuqua will direct "Tupac" from a script written by Academy Award nominated writers Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson. Rivele and Wilkinson wrote the Oscar nominated biopic feature film "Ali" that starred Will Smith.

The film's studios, production companies, and casting directors have set up the following website for people who would like to audition for the role of Tupac Shakur:

InSearchofTupac.com

The casting call allows individuals who epitomize and illuminate the persona of Tupac to upload their video audition. Entrants are encouraged to check the website often, as important announcements and additional casting opportunities will be published during the course of the audition process. In addition to taking auditions, the site will also be updated with rare video footage and interviews with the late rapper.

Filming on "Tupac" will take place in Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta and Las Vegas beginning late Spring/early Summer 2011 for a 2013 release. Universal Pictures will distribute the film.

Talent can also submit a photo and resume with a link to a demo video, such as on YouTube or Vimeo via the casting office address below. The demo videos should include a 24 line scene downloaded from InSearchofTupac.com and a one minute Tupac song performance. The deadline to submit is April 30, 2011.

Story:

The rise and fall of Tupac Shakur is chronicled, from his days attending the Baltimore School of the Arts as a teenager, to his decision to leave his mother’s dead-end life behind and embrace the Thug Life in California, to his wild success as a rapper and his dangerous war against the East Coast scene. A true poet who was waylaid by fame’s trappings, his earliest ambition was to change the world and make a difference in people’s lives, and before his tragic murder in Las Vegas in 1996, that’s exactly what 2Pac did.
