CBS holding open casting calls and accepting online applications for mega hit series 'Big Brother 14'

Big Brother 14 Application Open Casting Calls

Shooting on Big Brother 14 is scheduled for July through mid-late September, 2012.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The hit Teen Choice Awards nominated CBS reality series "Big Brother 14" is currently holding open casting calls and accepting online applications. This is the first season with the new application process. In addition to casting for the new Houseguests, extras will be cast throughout the season from July through mid to late September, 2012. The extras are audience members in the studio when evicted guests are interviewed by Julie Chen. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, and be a United States Citizen to apply. Big Brother 13 posted its largest audience and highest adults 18-49 rating since 2004.

The Big Brother 14 casting director is looking for a compelling group of people who are intelligible, interesting and display passion for the show as well as a broad-mindedness to share their most private thoughts in a setting of strangers. This group of individuals, while meeting the technical prerequisites of the broadcast, must also possess adequate physical, psychological, and mental capacity to endure approximately 100 days in a monitored house under extraordinary conditions.

The Big Brother House, located in Los Angeles, will be heavily equipped with video and audio recording devices which will record, broadcast and display the Houseguests' actions and voices at all times, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week in every room of the house for the span of the participation in the contest. Contestants will be observed at all times by the Producers as well as the general public viewing on television, the internet, mobile devices, etc.

Applicants who are selected by the Producers for an interview in the final selection process will be brought to Los Angeles - all expenses paid for travel, hotel accommodations and per diem by the Producers. One winning Houseguest will receive the grand-prize of $500,000. Except for the two finalists who will receive prize money, a weekly financial allowance will be provided for each participant for each week that he or she remains in the Big Brother House. Financial allowance payments and prize winnings will not be paid until after the broadcast of the final episode of the show.

Big Brother casting has basically been the same for the past 13 seasons. Big Brother 14 casting director Robyn Kass stated that the new application system will be much more user friendly than sending in a DVD, and she is hoping to get more applicants this way. You will be able to fill out a small application online, upload a video, and the rest is history. The goal is to go completely paperless.

Show Premise:

A group of people live together in a large house, isolated from the outside world. They are continuously watched by television cameras. Each series lasts for around three months, with 12-14 contestants entering the house. In order to win the final $500,000 cash prize, all the contestants have to do is survive periodic evictions and be the last one standing. The contestants are confined to a specially designed house where their every action is recorded by cameras and microphones at all times and they are not permitted any contact with the outside world. Besides living together under continuous observation, which is the major attraction of the contest, the program relies on four basic props: The stripped-bare back-to-basics environment in which they live, the evictions, the weekly tasks and competitions set by Big Brother and the "Diary/Confession Room," in which the housemates individually convey their thoughts, feelings, and frustrations and reveal their nominees for eviction. House guests are not allowed to sing or state movie quotes due to copyright, or talk about the production of the show or any diary room session. Normally producers will warn them and the feeds will temporarily cut off.

Each week, there is a Head of Household challenge, where all of the players compete for the power in the house. The Head of Household then nominates two other Houseguests for eviction. Several days later, a Power of Veto competition is held, where six players attempt to win the Golden Power of Veto, which gives the bearer the power to "veto," or cancel, one of the Head of Household's nominations, forcing the Head of Household to nominate someone else for eviction. Then, in the weekly live eviction, the Houseguests vote to evict someone from the house for good. Along the way are food competitions - which, if the Houseguests do not win, results in them eating "Slop" for the week - and the occasional luxury competition, all leading up to the show's finale, where a panel of sequestered jurors vote for a winner, who receives half a million dollars.
