10th Annual 'Stand-Up NBC' Comic Search open auditions begin July 14, 2013

Stand-Up NBC Open Auditions

Stand-Up NBC is now in it's 10th year.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The annual "Stand-Up NBC" comic search conducted by NBC Universal (NBCU) is now underway and open calls have been scheduled for San Diego, Austin, and New York City. This year the name of the program has been changed from "NBC Stand-Up for Diversity" to "Stand-Up NBC" and a brand new logo has been unveiled. This initiative is a search for comedians of diverse backgrounds, and many participants have been launched to new career milestones. The national search seeks to find the funniest comics of diverse backgrounds. The most-promising diverse stand-up comedians will be awarded a talent holding deal with NBC Universal, along with other opportunities to be announced later this year.

Each year NBC selects 3-5 cities across the country and holds both auditions and live showcases of the top diverse talent from that area. At the end of the search a handful of comedians are brought back to Los Angeles to showcase for key industry players at NBC Universal and industry-wide. Many of the comics from last year's 2012 Best of Stand-Up for Diversity showcase signed with top Hollywood agents and met with the entertainment industry's leading casting directors and executives. Top 'Stand-Up NBC' finalists also had the opportunity to perform at the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) and have booked hundreds of college appearances through NBCU’s established partnership with NACA.

Stand-Up NBC Auditions

Comics will have one minute at the initial regional open auditions. A handful will be invited back later that day to perform a longer set. Based upon performance, a select group of semi-finalists will have a chance to perform live at the NBC Universal showcase the next evening where industry executives are invited to attend. Comics must have a total minimum of five minutes of polished material. Audience response will be a factor in determining which comic (or comics) will be selected for the "Stand-Up NBC Finale" showcase in Los Angeles.

Only the first 100 comics to arrive on the auditions days will be seen. It is highly advisable to show up early.
