Open Casting Calls for the hit show "The Next Star" in Canada

YTV has announced details of its countrywide open casting call for Season 2 of "The Next Star," a reality series for singers aged 15 and under. Scouts will hit six cities, starting May 2 in Halifax.

They'll move to Montreal on May 5, Toronto on May 9 and May 10, Winnipeg on May 16, Edmonton on May 19 and Vancouver on May 23.

Sixteen hopefuls will be picked from the auditions and featured on the series, hosted by actor Adamo Ruggiero of "Degrassi: The Next Generation."

Six of them will get to go through the mentorship process with musician Suzie McNeil, songwriter Christopher Ward and music marketing executive Steve Cranwell.

The winner is determined by viewer votes.

Season 2 of "The Next Star" is slated to kick off July 17 on YTV.

Dunnery Bond, 14, of Lakelands, N.S., won last year's installment during a live finale at Canada's Wonderland in September.

His prize was the chance to record a single with Universal Music Canada and make his own professional music video.

If you are aged 15 or younger as of September 1, 2009, you can audition for The Next Star. You must prepare one song from the song list, and a second song of your choosing.
