Open casting call in Newburgh, NY for kids 11-16 to star in feature film

Newburgh Feature Film Open Casting Call

An open casting call is set for a film shooting Summer, 2013 in Newburgh, NY.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The city of Newburgh, New York has sent a message to Hollywood and Tinseltown has responded. The city and surrounding Hudson Valley has seen a record number of films shooting in the area this year, with filmmakers being drawn to the area as a result of Governor Cuomo’s commitment to the industry. An open casting call is scheduled for kids/teen between the ages of 11-16 for lead and co-starring roles. The movie will be shooting in Newburgh in July and August, 2013.

The Hudson Valley proximity to New York City along with the state's 30 percent tax credit has been a very attractive incentive for Hollywood feature film productions to set up shop in the area. In Hudson Valley there is much less traffic for film crews to transport sets and equipment from New York City, than locations such as Brooklyn or Long Island. Being only 60 miles from NYC also makes for an easy commute for actors based in Manhattan.

Newburgh is also home to the state-of-the-art sound stages at Umbra of Newburgh. The studio meets the requirements as a "Qualified Film Production Facility" in New York State, which means films using the facility qualify for the Empire State Film Production Tax Credit program. Umbrah has a 16,000 sq. ft. sound stage, and a second 20,000 sq. ft. sound stage, along with a 6000 sq. ft. scenic/construction area.

To help attract and support Hollywood productions in the area, the Newburgh Film Office was opened on April 5, 2013. Mark Gamma, owner of the Newburgh Actor's Studio, is operating the film office. Gamma has been the go-to guy for film and television productions coming to the area, and he has helped with location scouting, film permits, crew and extras hiring, and coordinating with city officials.

Recent films shot in Newburgh include the Magnolia Pictures feature film "The Brass Teapot" starring BAFTA Award winner Juno Temple and Young Artist Awards nominee Michael Angarano, "Return" starring Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Linda Cardellini and Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon. Portions of Paul Newman's hit "Nobody’s Fool" were filmed in Newburgh in 1993. Other Hudson Valley projects in various stages of production include "Why Now?!" starring Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei and two-time Screen Actors Guild nominee Sam Rockwell; "7 Years, 3 Days" starring Young Artist Awards winner Emma Roberts; and "Back Roads" starring BAFTA Awards winner Kristen Stewart.

Newburgh Open Casting Call Details

The following roles are being cast locally for a feature film that will shoot in Newburg, NY in July and August, 2013:

[CLARK] - 11-14 yrs. to play 12 years old. Biracial. (Caucasian/African-American).
Intelligent, sophisticated, cultured, and quiet, Clark’s idea of fun is reading, listening to jazz and hanging out with his posse of NYC friends and his parents, an artist and writer. When his family moves from NYC to Idaho, he suddenly feels pressured to become someone he isn’t. (LEAD)

[AMBROSIA] – 11-14 yrs. to play 12 yrs. old. Caucasian. Acts older and experienced than she actually is - a sheltered girl from a small town. Confident, powerful and a leader, she has never met someone from NYC before. Best friends with Julie.

[JULIE] – 11-14 yrs. to play 12 yrs. old. Caucasian. Smart but impressionable, Julie is Ambrosia's sidekick. Innocent and naïve, she is actually a good person when not being intimidated by Ambrosia. She has never met someone from NYC before. Friends with Ambrosia.

[WILLIAM] - 14-16 yrs. to play 15 yrs. old. African-American. Clark’s cousin, he comes to visit Clark when Clark moves to Idaho. More mature and experienced than Clark – but that is not saying much. He's a good student and is trying to be a leader to his younger cousin, Clark. Goes by the nickname Frosty.

NOTE: This an open casting call. Talent can just show up and meet the casting team and director. But the roles are specific. For kids and teens. No advance sides (audition script). It will be a "cold read". For local talent only.

National talent search in Australia for singers to sign recording deals with Warner Music

Warner Music Australia National Talent Search 2013

This Warner Music talent search is being touted as "old school" style.
AB Media Publishing, LLC

The search is on in Australia for singers who could possibly become the next huge superstar recording artist. Music producer/manager David Caplice has entered into a creative joint venture with Warner Music Australia to scout and develop exciting new pop talent for the world stage. Open auditions are now scheduled across Australia through the month of July, 2013. The qualities being sought are singers of any genre or style who are 12 years of age and older, ability to dance or learn to dance, some acting skills, good stage presence and performance skills, and a strong desire to succeed as a performer. There are no fees whatsoever to attend the open auditions or be considered.

Warner Music is touting this national talent search as being old-school and getting back to the basics. But instead of talent scouts attending performances at pubs and concerts, they are asking singers to come to open auditions. Given how many TV show "talent searches" are on the air around the world right now, the label wants to conduct these open auditions without them being connected in any way to a reality or talent show. David Caplice will have the sole responsibility of selecting the talent for development with the record label. There will be no voting or decisions by committee. Caplice is more than qualified, as he has discovered and managed such superstars as Human Nature, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian.

The open auditions are being held across Australia in the locations of Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Brisbane, and Gold Coast. Some of the venues where the auditions are taking place are being held in iconic buildings such as the 1880s built landmark Sydney Town Hall and Melbourne Town Hall. Other locations include the Darwin Entertainment Centre, which was opened by the Administrator of the Northern Territory in 1986. The Darwin Entertainment Centre is the premier entertainment and convention venue in Darwin, Australia.

Australia Open Auditions Details

The following are the dates, times, and locations of the open auditions for the Warner Music Australia nationwide talent search. All talent must be 12 years of age and older at the time of auditioning. In order to secure your place in line, you should show up on time to fill out a registration form and prepare for the audition. After waiting in line, you will be brought in to perform privately for the Warner Music executives. All talent attending should prepare one song of any genre or crossover of genres. The song can be either an original or cover. It can be performed acapella or with acoustic accompaniment.

Open casting calls scheduled for HBO drama pilot 'The Leftovers'

HBO The Leftover Open Casting Calls

Steven King described "The Leftovers" novel as "the best Twilight Zone episode you never saw".
AB Media Publishing, LLC

Warner Bros. Television in association with Bone Fide Productions and Film 44 are getting set to begin production on the exciting new HBO drama pilot "The Leftovers", which is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Perrotta. The casting directors are holding open casting calls for people of all ages, types, and ethnicities to work as fully paid background performers on the show. Shooting will be taking place in in Rockland and Westchester Counties in New York from late June through late July, 2013.

"The Leftovers" takes place after The Rapture happens but not quite like it’s supposed to. It is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut, and a world that will never be the same. It has been three years and the world is a little smaller. Not because of technology, but because October 14th was the day 2% of the world’s population—disappeared. Tension is rapidly rising, and especially in a small town like Mapleton, people need someone to turn to. Chief of police Kevin Garvey is a father of two who is trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is starting to believe that the world will someday be as it once was, a notion that will never hold true.

Starring in "The Leftovers" is Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Justin Theroux playing the role of Police Chief Kevin Garvey. Theroux has most recently starred in the Universal Pictures feature film "Wanderlust" with Jennifer Aniston. He is also a very accomplished writer and director. He has penned screenplays for such hit films as "Tropic Thunder," "Iron Man 2," "Rock of Ages," and the upcoming Paramount Pictures feature film "Zoolander 2" which he will also direct. Theroux has performed on Broadway, starring in "Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme".

Two-time Primetime Emmy Award nominated filmmaker Peter Berg is directing "The Leftovers" from an adapted teleplay written by Primetime Emmy Award winner Damon Lindelof and Academy Award nominee Tom Perrotta, based on Perrotta's novel of the same name. Peter Berg is enjoying an amazing career as actor, writer, producer, and director that has spanned over 24 years. He recently executive produced, wrote and directed the feature film "Lone Survivor" starring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana. He also directed the 2012 science-fiction/action film "Battleship," and is executive producing a live-action version of the graphic novel "Hercules: The Thracian Wars".

Peter Berg and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Sarah Aubrey are executive producing under the banner of their production company Film 44. Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa are executive producing for Bona Fide Productions. The film's writers, Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, are also serving as co-executive producers.

Story:

What if—whoosh, right now, with no explanation - a number of us simply vanished? Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? That’s what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children. Kevin Garvey, Mapleton’s new mayor, wants to speed up the healing process, to bring a sense of renewed hope and purpose to his traumatized community. Kevin’s own family has fallen apart in the wake of the disaster: his wife, Laurie, has left to join the Guilty Remnant, a homegrown cult whose members take a vow of silence; his son, Tom, is gone, too, dropping out of college to follow a sketchy prophet named Holy Wayne. Only Kevin’s teenaged daughter, Jill, remains, and she’s definitely not the sweet “A” student she used to be. Kevin wants to help her, but he’s distracted by his growing relationship with Nora Durst, a woman who lost her entire family on October 14th and is still reeling from the tragedy, even as she struggles to move beyond it and make a new start.
