The independent feature film A Country Called Home is now casting lead and supporting roles, and an open casting call has been scheduled for August 17, 2014.
Ironwood Entertainment will begin shooting A Country Called Home this fall in Texas. Anna Axster will direct the film from her own original screenplay. Axster has been making films and music videos for more than 10 years, many of which have screened in festivals around the world and have been viewed more than 2.5 million times online. Nicolas Gonda will produce A Country Called Home. Gonda co-produced the Academy Award nominated film The Tree of Life, and is set to produce the upcoming feature film Candy Store starring Keira Knightley and Robert De Niro.A Country Called Home follows Ellie, a 27-year old whose life is far from where she imagined it to be. Filled with annoying friends, a self-involved boyfriend, and a career that she can’t bring herself to pursue, Ellie feels detached from her life. When she learns that her estranged alcoholic father has died, her world is disrupted and she begins a journey that takes her to a small town in Texas. While dealing with the logistical arrangements of her father’s death, Ellie has to confront what happens when the structures and safety nets we build for ourselves come undone. She eventually is able to find family and friendship in this most unexpected place and so a world that she saw as two-toned starts to appear in many different shades. When things come to a head at her father’s wake, Ellie must take charge and decide if she can steer through the sometimes blurry difference of being an adult and growing up.
Starring in A Country Called Home is British Independent Film Awards winner Imogen Poots playing the starring role of Ellie. Poots recently starring Need for Speed. She also recently completed shooting on the feature films She's Funny That Way starring opposite Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, and Knight of Cups starring alongside Christian Bale and Natalie Portman.
